Born September 28, 1928 in Asheville, North Carolina. Parents: Oscar and Chetta (Lanning) Beachboard. Brothers: Wayne, Ray, Herbert. Sisters: May, Pansy, Marie, Barbara. The family lived on a 40 acre farm in the Smoky Mountains where they raised tabacco, corn, beans, and other food stuffs. Jim attended Sand Hill School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1947. He was stationed in Tsingtao and Peking, and served in Korea duing the Korean war. He returned to North Carolina in 1951 After he returned from Korea Jim took his GI bill for auto body, fender, and painting. He then worked for Blue Ridge Service in West Asheville. He moved to California in 1954 with his brother Ray. They worked for Sunkist and helped cut the grove where Disneyland was built.  |
